NEW YORK (AP) President Joe Biden on Wednesday held a first-ever immigration hearing in which he faced tough questions from Republicans about the future of his legislation on immigration.
The hearing focused on the potential impacts of a bill that would overhaul the nation’s immigration system, including what he said would be an overhaul of legal immigration.
Biden, a Democrat, has argued that the changes would benefit Americans.
The GOP-led House has blocked the bill from going to a full House vote, and Vice President Mike Pence has said the bill will pass the Senate.
The White House says Biden will address a similar hearing next week in the White House.___Follow AP National Politics Writer Paul Kane at www.twitter.com/pkaneAP
