China’s immigration lawyer and legal commentator is being fired after he appeared on a local news program and called for the release of convicted criminals, according to a report by The Australian.
Mr Wong, who also runs an Australian advocacy group, said the Chinese government should allow free passage for asylum seekers and the “free flow of capital”.
“We have got to be able to get out of the bubble, because that is the only way we are going to save our economy,” he said on The ABC’s The World Today program on Tuesday.
“I think we have to give some people some freedom, but the free flow of money is not enough.”
Mr Wong was also accused of saying “a lot of people who come here have a bad reputation”, when referring to Chinese asylum seekers.
“They are often given the wrong information and that can be damaging,” he told the program.
“They want people to come here and get away with murder, and I would rather people get a bad rap than have a good reputation.””
So it is the responsibility of the Chinese authorities to get their house in order and get these criminals out.””

“Mr Wang said it was “unfair” that people who committed crimes in China could be given amnesty, while people who had worked in China were not.”
If you have a criminal record, you have to pay the fine,” he added.”
And if you don’t pay, then you can’t go to the country.
“Mr Huang, a retired lawyer, said Mr Wong had been “stalked” and his career was in jeopardy because of his views.”
We are not trying to hurt anybody, we are just trying to spread the message of freedom,” he argued.”
In my experience, there are so many people who have worked here and are now in jail, I would never want to be associated with that.
“Mr Jiang, a lawyer who was on the program as well, said his clients would have had no choice but to defend their clients.”
People don’t want to do the wrong thing, but they have to do what is right, so they do what they can,” he claimed.”
But we are in a situation where people are getting arrested and we are not allowed to defend them.
“Mr Zhou said that while he was disappointed by the episode, he had a strong belief in the system.”
When you have so many cases that get processed, that are so complex and they are so expensive, I think we should be able do our job and do it in a fair way,” he stated.”
There are so few cases that are being prosecuted and I think it is really important that we do it the right way.
